
True to the spirit of give and take, Shun Hing Group established the "Shun Hing Education and Charity Fund" in 1984. The Fund has donated more than HK$500 million towards projects that benefit education, medical services, sports, arts & culture, environmental protection and community services.

Dr Mong Man-wai strongly believes that the provision of comprehensive education to the younger generation is essential for building a prosperous society. For the past decades, it has contributed significantly to the development of education in Hong Kong, the mainland and overseas. Apart from setting up scholarships in various tertiary institutions, the Group has bestowed grants to upgrade campus facilities. These include the Science Block at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Academic Building at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the Administrative and Office Building of the City University of Hong Kong and the student hostel at Hong Kong Lingnan University. In 1993, the Fund donated HK$5 million to the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology to establish the William Mong Semiconductor Clusters Laboratory.
Shun Hing Education and Charity Fund has actively supported the establishment of research and endowment funds to finance academic and scientific research projects. Among these are the William Mong Engineering Research Fund of the University of Hong Kong set up in 1991. In 1993, the Fund also donated HK$18 million to the Chinese University of Hong Kong. In recognition of the Fund's donation of HK$50 million for the setting up of an endowment fund to enhance the language ability of to-be-teachers, the Main Library of Hong Kong Institute of Education was named after Dr Mong.
Through the fund, the Group also made significant donations to a number of tertiary institutions in the Mainland and overseas. Beneficiaries include the Student Cultural Activities Centre at Tsinghua University in Beijing, the Science and Technology Centre at Nanjing University, the Physics Building at Jinan University, the Academic Laboratory Building at Nankai University in Tianjing and the Student Cultural Activities Centre at National Tsinghua University in Taiwan. In 1996, the Fund donated ¢G1.5 million to the Cambridge University in UK for the construction of a multi-purpose lecture and conference hall at Sidney Sussex College christened the Mong Man Wai Building. It is the first building at the University named after an Asian.
Shun Hing Education and Charity Fund also supported the establishment of kindergartens, primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong. In addition, it has contributed to the redevelopment of schools including La Salle Primary School and CCC Mong Man Wai College. To provide education opportunities for the less advantaged children living in remote areas of China, the Group also sponsored the Chinese Children's Education Foundation Limited. Between 1992 and 2002, the Group supported the Shun Hing Reading Awards Scheme organized by the Education Department with the purpose of nurturing reading habits among the youngsters.

Medical Services
With the belief that "health is people's most valuable assets", Dr William Mong has continuously extended full support on medical development in Hong Kong. In 2001, Dr Mong donated HK$17 million to Queen Mary Hospital for the establishment of the Mong Man Wai Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory and Coronary Care Unit. With well-equipped environment plus innovative and advanced facilities, it is hoped that the community could benefit from this establishment and achieve breakthroughs in cardiovascular diseases
Dr Mong's concern about the well being of the society has led him to sponsor the "Tongue Acupuncture Centre" incorporating Chinese medical practice with scientific research.
With a view to enhance the quality of local medical education, Shun Hing Education and Charity Fund has made generous donations towards medical research. The Fund's contribution to the Hong Kong Cancer Foundation comes as a result of the concern to increase public awareness on cancer and to develop a cure for the disease. In 1996, the Fund donated HK$5 million to set up the Mong Man-wai Chair of Otorhinolaryngology at the Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine of the University of Hong Kong.

Sports
Shun Hing Group has been sponsoring the "National Panasonic Cup" since 1985. The Group believes that the event not only offers corporate entertainment in a relaxed atmosphere but also benefits the society, as the proceeds will go to charitable organizations through the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust.
The Group also supported events like the "Super Challenge '94" tennis match between Michael Chang and John McEnroe. In 1995, it participated in the Inter-Company Charity Race of Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival International Races organized by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (formerly Hong Kong Tourist Association).

Arts & Culture
Shun Hing Group plays an active role in promoting arts and culture by sponsoring the annual Hong Kong Arts Festival since 1991. Performances sponsored include the NHK Symphony Orchestra in 2002. In 2003, Shun Hing Group proudly presents the piano recital by renowned pianist, Mr Yundi Li. To generate funding for the Student Ticket Scheme of Hong Kong Arts Festival, an array of tie-in charitable events are held.
In the light of the increasing demand for digital video cameras in film shooting, Shun Hing Group sponsors the first "Asian DV Competition" of Hong Kong International Film Festival 2003. Besides, the Group promotes music and arts appreciation by supporting the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and the Hong Kong Repertory Theatre. In 1995, the Tsinghua Student Arts Association was invited to perform in the "Shun Hing Tsinghua Cultural Evening" at the Hong Kong Arts Centre.

Environmental Protection
Dr William Mong understands that education and technology are essential for the prosperity of a nation. He made donations to the Purple Mountain Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Science in 1996 for the development of telescope to observe the changing patterns of the universe. In recognition of Dr Mong's support, Asteroid 3678 was named as "Mong Man Wai Star".
Moreover, Shun Hing Group shows its concern to the environment by continuously supporting the China Exploration Research Society in funding and provision of equipment for the launching of research projects on environmental protection.
To raise public awareness on environmental issues in 1996 & 1997, Shun Hing sponsored two special programmes on TVB, namely: "Panasonic Special: From Tropic to Arctic" and "Panasonic Special: The Barren Zone".

Community Services
In collaboration with the Apple Fund of Apple Daily, Shun Hing Education and Charity Fund organized a charitable project, namely, "Shun Hing Household for Home Appliances" since 1998 donating electrical appliances to the less advantaged of the society. Year 2003 marks the Group's 50th Anniversary and as a keen supporter of community activities, Shun Hing Group commits to donate electrical appliances valued at HK$500,000 in total to help the needy.
