About Shun Hing

1953

Dr. William Mong established Shun Hing Hong to be the sole agent in Hong Kong and Macau for National (now known as Panasonic) products manufactured by Matsushita Electric of Japan. The company soon sold its first consignment of 30 sets of valve-type portable radio. Electric irons, refrigerators, television sets, washing machines, electric fans and air conditioners were also imported to Hong Kong.

1959

The company was appointed by Victor Company of Japan Ltd, a Matsushita Electric subsidiary, as sole agent in Hong Kong and Macau for NIVICO (now known as JVC) products. The same year saw the introduction of 24 sets of National electric rice cookers to Hong Kong.

1960

In November, Shun Hing Hong was formally registered as Shun Hing Electronic Trading Co Ltd (SHET).

1962

The company opened the first National Home Appliances Display Centre in Chungking Mansion and erected Hong Kong's largest neon billboard on Nathan Road.

1963

SHET held a special dinner in the Miramar Hotel to celebrate its first 10 years. Mr Konosuke Matsushita, Chairman of Matsushita Electric Industrial Co Ltd, and his wife along with several senior directors of the company attended the dinner.

1965

Mong's Industrial Building at Chong Yip Street in Kwun Tong was completed.

1967

In November, SHET held the first-ever National product exhibition, "The Grand National Electronics Show", in the City Hall Exhibition Hall to celebrate its first fifteen years.

1969

In July, a subsidiary, Shun Hing JVC Ltd (SHJVC), was established with the specific task of marketing JVC products, whose sales had been gathering momentum.

1972

National Panacolour televisions were sold in Hong Kong for the first time, opening the road to successful sales of National colour televisions in Hong Kong.

1973

In June, Shun Hing Advertising Co Ltd (SHAC) was established to undertake advertising and promotional efforts for National and JVC products. In the same year, SHET celebrated its 20th Anniversary with an exhibition "The Electric Generation" at the City Hall Exhibition Hall.

1976

In September, Shun Hing Electric Works and Engineering Co Ltd (SHEW) was established to promote National industrial and engineering equipment, as well as construction and decoration materials. It also undertook air-conditioning, mechanical and electronic engineering projects.

1977

Established in the Ritz Building in Mongkok, the spacious National and JVC Showroom occupied over 10,000 square feet, and was the largest showroom for electrical appliances in Hong Kong.

1978

SHET celebrated its silver jubilee by staging a large-scale exhibition, "Living for the 80's", in the City Hall Exhibition Hall.

1980

In May, Shun Hing Electric Service Centre Ltd (SHESC) was formed.

1981

In June, SHAC set up TDI Transportation Displays International Ltd. (TDI)

1983

To celebrate its 30th Anniversary, the Shun Hing Group proudly held "The Electronic New Age" exhibition. With a theme of "pioneering new technologies, serving the community", the exhibition showed that National products had diversified beyond the confines of home appliances into the realm of advanced electronic technology.

1984

In May, in keeping with the company tradition of serving the community, the Shun Hing Group launched the Shun Hing Education and Charity Fund Ltd (SHECF). In the same year, Matsushita Electric of Japan, working in co-operation with SHEW, produced the Rasonic line of air conditioners for Hong Kong consumers.

1985

In May, a National showroom was opened inside Sogo Department Store in Causeway Bay. In July, SHET's Office Automation Department officially became an independent company, Shun Hing Technology Co Ltd (SHTEC), responsible for the promotion of Panasonic OA equipment, professional audio and video equipment, and communications systems.

1986

SHET formed a chain of Panashops in the New Territories of Hong Kong, in cooperation with various appliance dealers.

1987

SHTEC further expanded its product range by importing Itoki office furniture and acting as the sole agent of Itoki products in Hong Kong and Macau. Later, SHTEC added the Hico line of office furniture to meet the different needs of the Hong Kong and Macau markets.

1988

Shun Hing Group held "The Technology New Age" exhibition at the City Hall Exhibition Hall to celebrate its 35th Anniversary, on the theme of "Serving the Community". In the same year, SHEW was appointed by Matsushita Seiko Co Ltd as the sole agent in Hong Kong and Macau for KDK electric fans and ventilating fans.

1990 -1991

SHEW was also appointed as the sole agent in Hong Kong for DONN commercial raised-floor systems and Musgrave emergency electricity generators.

1992

To further expand its investment business in mainland China, the Shun Hing Group established Shun Hing China Investment Ltd.

1993

Shun Hing Group celebrated both its 40th anniversary and a new milestone in business development - the establishment of Shun Hing Forwarders Co Ltd (SHFOR) and Shun Hing Engineering Contracting Co Ltd (SHECON). The Group inaugurated a brand-new industrial and commercial building, the Shun Hing Centre, and held a stylish grand opening for the Shun Hing Gallery, an innovative public forum for experiencing the diverse product range of Shun Hing Group.

1993

Shun Hing Group erected the largest neon sign ever, near the exit of the Cross Harbour Tunnel in Hunghom, making Panasonic the focus of world attention.

1993

Shun Hing China Investment Ltd opened an office in Shanghai to expand business in the region and to supervise the development of Group real estates. To commemorate 40 years of service to the community, the Group held a series of celebrations throughout 1993, including a spectacular exhibition entitled "The Shun Hing 40th Anniversary Expo - Into the 21st Century". This exhibition detailed the impressive achievements of Shun Hing over its first 40 years. The Group also sponsored the TVB extravaganza, "Shun Hing Hong Kong's 40 Years: Superstar Charity Night", and staged the multimedia show, "Tales from the Middle Kingdom".

1994

In September, SHEW joined with the Matsushita Group to form Panasonic Shun Hing Industrial Sales (Hong Kong) Co Ltd. Business registration was also completed for Integrated Shun Hing Logistics (Shenzhen) Ltd in Shenzhen's Futian Free Trade zone. Shun Hing Logistics then invested HK$150 million for the construction of a state-of-the-art warehouse.

1995

On the 16th of March, the Group formally revised its Chinese name to keep in line with business strategy, creating another milestone in the Group's history.

1996

SHEW launched its full range of Rasonic small home appliances.

1997

The Group sponsored two television specials, "100 Years of Prosperity" and "30-Day Countdown to Reunification", and issued the limited-edition 1997 National Panasonic Telephone Card to customers as a memento of Hong Kong's transition to a new era. SHEW also became sole agent in Hong Kong and Macua for kitchen appliances from Teka, a popular European brand; and SHTEC added prestigious Loewe televisions from Germany to its growing product lien for Hong Kong consumers. Also, the Ninki Denki shop was opened at Grand Century Place in the Mong Kok district of Hong Kong to display National Panasonic brand products in an innovative way.

1998

In February, Shun Hing China Investment Ltd established the Hangzhou Matsushita Kitchen Appliances Co Ltd (a joint venture with Hangzhou Chengfeng Electric Appliance Corporation and Matsushita Electric Industrial Co Ltd) to manufacture rice cookers and other kitchen appliances. In the same year, a massive Panasonic neon sign was erected on top of Elizabeth House in Causeway bay, adding more glamour to the Hong Kong skyline.

1999

In June, Shun Hing JVC launched the “JVC Interactive Zone” in its website. SHET also launched the new website of Panasonic AV products in December of the same year.

2000

The "Ninki Denki too" shop was opened at Maritime Square in Tsing Yi in January. SHET launched the new website of National Panasonic product in February.

2001

In September, the Panasonic Health One shop was opened at Times Square in Causeway Bay to offer a new sales channel for the innovative Panasonic health and beauty products.

2002

In May, Shun Hing Group became the largest shareholder of Telecommunications & Technology Asia Ltd. to provide the all-round information management services for corporate clients. Shun Hing Group also established a new group company, Shun Hing Systems Integration Co., Ltd., in November of the same year.

2003

With the slogan “Shun Hing bridged with you for 50 years, Moving ahead together”, Shun Hing Group celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2003. A Golden Jubilee Expo was launched to display the representative and the latest products throughout the years, which demonstrated respective milestones of Shun hing Group. Japan’s Matsushita Electric announced that the brand name of “Panasonic” to replace the brand name of “National” progressively in the same year. After consolidating the brand name, Shun Hing Group brought Hong Kong residents the Panasonic products with innovative, stylish and technologically advanced image. The Group also organised Golden Jubilee Dinner to be one of the celebration activities and held Lucky Draw to reward the customers.

2003

The Shun Hing Volunteering Team was established to show love and care to the needy and underprivileged.

2004

In recognition of the Group’s contribution to and outstanding performance in corporate social responsibility, the Group has been awarded as Caring Company by the Hong Kong Council of Social Service since 2004.

2004

In December, the Panasonic Health One shop was opened at New Town Plaza in Sha Tin.

2005

In March, SHAC became the first advertising agency of obtaining ISO qualification in Hong Kong.

2006

In June, Macau Customer Service Centre set up a new maintenance service workshop. And its second Customer service Centre was established in October 2006 to enhance the long term development of Macau market.

2007

To foster local young football players in Hong Kong, the Shun Hing Group sponsored the Eastern Athletic Association Football Club for the 2007/08 and 2008/09 seasons under the Panasonic banner. The Shun Hing staff took part in the "Homeless World Cup", an event organised to encourage community concern for and assistance to the homeless for three consecutive years since 2006.

2007

In November, Shun Hing Education and Charity Fund set up “Mong Man Wai Mainland-Hong Kong University Student Exchange Scholarship (MUSE) aiming at enhancing the exchange of students from Hong Kong SAR and the Mainland.

2008

Shun Hing Group celebrated its 55th Anniversary by inviting several world-renowned classical musicians to perform a series of enchanting concerts in Hong Kong.

2009

Dr. William Mong was awarded “Leader of the Year 2008 - Commerce & Industry/ Finance” by the Sing Tao Newspaper Group.

In September, Panasonic became the principal sponsor of South China Football Team to support local football development.

In December, Ninki Denki was opened in iSQUARE, Tsimshatsui.

2010

In recognition of its continuing support of arts and culture in Hong Kong, the Shun Hing Group received the Award for Arts Sponsorship by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council in May.

In May, the Group jointly organized the Panasonic Sports Scholarship Programme with the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China.

Business of Shun Hing Systems Integration has been developing satisfactorily. Its projects include SDH optical transmission systems of HK Electric and CLP Power, maintenance of regional traffic control system and LED traffic lights, MTR platform screen doors, Light Rail Tetra Radio System and news broadcast system in East Rail, baggage handling system for MTRC airport express, baggage and cargo handling systems for the Hong Kong International Airport, cargo handling system for Asia Airfreight Terminal 2 and control systems for various financial institutions, etc.

The Shun Hing Creative and Scientific Research Workshop of C.C.C. Mong Wong Far Yuk Memorial Primary School was opened in April.

In appreciation of the generous support of the Shun Hing Group, a lecture theatre at the Creative Media Centre at the City University of Hong Kong was named the Shun Hing Lecture Theatre in May.

The Shun Hing Group became the sole agent of Küppersbusch, the famous German kitchen appliance brand in August. A showroom was opened in Happy Valley.

Shun Hing Innovative Concept Co. Ltd (SHIC) was established in January, and became the exclusive distributor of KÄRCHER's White Home Line cleaning appliances and Breville kitchen appliances in Hong Kong and Macau.

Shun Hing Life and Beauty Co., Ltd was established in July, and was appointed by Japan MTG Co., Ltd. as the sole agent in Hong Kong and Macau.

Shun Hing Group celebrated its 60th anniversary at the Island Shangri-La Hong Kong, all officiating guests broke the bucket with the wooden hammers, signifying a new chapter of the Group.

The Group held “The Most Liked Classic Product Vote”. National Rice Cooker became The Most Liked Classic Product from 12 nominated classic products. There are Panasonic Palmcorder, Panasonic The One Television, National Radio, National Washer, National Pager, Panasonic Facsimile, JVC VHS Tape Reel Recorder, JVC NIVICO Hi-Fi System, JVC Sphere TV, KDK Fan and Technics Turntable.

Cooperated with Social Welfare Department, “Switch on 60 Dreams” is the Group's latest endeavor to call on secondary school pupils to unleash their creativity and get into the philanthropic spirit by submitting project plans that foster empathy and benevolence and promote social integration of the young, the elderly and the disabled.

Funded by Shun Hing Education and Charity Fund, the Mong Man Wai Building of Science and Technology at Tsinghua University had its opening ceremony in January.

Shun Hing Electric Works & Engineering Co. Ltd. became the sole agent of ALNO, a well-known kitchen cabinet manufacturer in Germany, for Hong Kong and Macau market. A new flagship shop opened in Sheung Wan, selling ALNO kitchen cabinets, high-end Küppersbusch and TEKA built-in kitchen appliances.

In appreciation of the founder of Shun Hing Group, Dr William M W Mong's generous support to the Shanghai Jiao Tong University, the main building of the School of Mechanical Engineering was named "Mong Man Wai Building" and the naming ceremony was held in May.

Shun Hing Group 65th anniversary dinner was held at the Chancellor Room of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. With more than 300 distinguished guests from the political, commercial sectors and business partners attended the dinner, celebrating the 65th anniversary of the Shun Hing Group and 100th anniversary of Panasonic Corporation.

Shun Hing Electric Works & Engineering Co., Ltd. became the sole distributor of Takara Standard, a well-known enamel kitchen cabinet manufacturer in Japan, for Hong Kong and Macau market. A new flagship shop was opened in Wan Chai.

The Grand Opening of Shun Hing Centre-New Building was taken place on 20 December 2019. The 17-level-high New Building of Shun Hing Centre locates at No. 2, Shing Yiu Street at Kwai Chung. The New Building produces synergy with a neighboring Shun Hing Centre, allowing the group to expand its range of businesses.

Dr. David Mong was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon for his outstanding contributions to promoting cultural exchanges and the enhancement and development of economic relationship between Japan and Hong Kong in January.

The iSQUARE shop of Living Station by Panasonic was launched in August. Proud to be the first Kowloon branch of Living Station by Panasonic which offers one-stop service to customers.

The Wanchai branch of Living Station by Panasonic was launched in October with two storeys and over 2,000 square feet. New features are introduced to customers to inspire fresh design.

The brand new Customer Service & Experience Centre locating on the 9th Floor of Peninsula Centre in Tsim Sha Tsui East was launched in August. Not only providing carry-in repair service and accessories / consumables purchasing service, but also showcasing different brands of products that are distributed by Shun Hing Group.

In July, Shun Hing Education and Charity Fund donated HK$300 million to support the establishment of Tech Landmark of the University of Hong Kong as the important research center of HKU.
