Shun Hing sponsors Le French May Arts Festival 2009

Shun Hing Group, a keen supporter of and contributor to the local arts scene, shows support to Le French May Arts Festival 2009 by sponsoring the "Jean-Efflam Bavouzet: Piano Journey", which took place on 19 May 2009 in the Concert Hall of the Hong Kong City Hall. The programme attracted some 1,000 spectators and was extremely well-received.

A day before the Concert, Jean-Efflam Bavouzet visited the University of Hong Kong (HKU) and appeared at “Pianist Jean-Efflam Bavouzet – In Concert & In Conversation” also sponsored by Shun Hing Group. Moderated by Professor Daniel Chua, Head of School of Humanities at HKU, the sharing session attracted some 400 spectators. Jean-Efflam Bavouzet gave a short recital and shared his performance experience with the University’s faculty and students, secondary school students and classical music lovers.

Classical music enthusiast Dr William Mong said, "This is the first year for us to sponsor Le French May Arts Festival, which has 17 years of history. We not only want to enhance cultural exchange between Hong Kong and France, but also provide versatile platforms for arts promotion in Hong Kong.”

French pianist Jean-Efflam Bavouzet combines a rare elegance and clarity in his playing with deep and thoughtful musicality. His insatiable enthusiasm and artistic curiosity has led him to explore a repertoire ranging from Haydn, Beethoven, Bartok and Prokofiev to contemporary works by composers such as Bruno Mantovani and Jörg Widmann.

Mr. Bavouzet is a regular at London’s Wigmore Hall, as well as at the La Roque d’Antheron Festival in France, where he will perform a complete Debussy cycle in August 2009. He performs the complete Beethoven Sonatas in the Forbidden City Concert Hall in Beijing throughout the 2008/09 season – a project for which he has just received an award of the annual Classical Elites Beijing (CEBJ) as the “Instrumental Recital of the Year”.

An exclusive recording artist for Chandos, Jean-Efflam Bavouzet has just completed a recording project of Debussy’s Complete Works for Solo Piano. Volume 3 of the cycle has received a BBC Music Magazine Award 2009 and has also been awarded the “Choc de I’annee 2008” of Le Monde de la Musique magazine, while Volume 2 has won the “Diapason d’or of the year 2008” of Diapason magazine and was on the shortlist for the MIDEM Classical Awards 2009, as well as the 2008 Gramophone Awards.
