"New York Philharmonic" sponsored by Shun Hing Group was presented on Saturday, 16 February 2008, at 8pm in the Concert Hall, Hong Kong Cultural Centre.
Chairman of Shun Hing Group Dr. and Mrs William Mong, Vice-Chairman of the Group Mr David Mong, and Vice-Chairman of Shun Hing Education and Charity Fund Ms Cheung Man-yee hosted an intermission reception for the art-loving guests. Guests with great renowned were invited, to name but a few, Prof & Mrs Yang Chen-ning, Prof & Mrs K C Chan, Mr & Mrs Allen Lee, Mr Antony Leung, Ms Elsie Leung and Mrs Irene Yau.
Art-enthusiast Dr. William Mong said, "This is the 18th consecutive year for Shun Hing Group to support the Hong Kong Arts Festival. As our Group celebrates its 55th Anniversary this year, it is particularly exciting to see the great performance of this oldest and well-known New York Philharmonic. The Group aims to promote arts and culture by supporting a wide diversity of cultural events in Hong Kong."
New York Philharmonic was set up in 1842, same as Vienna Philharmonic. The orchestra continues its leading role in America and organizes more than 14,000 concerts. The conductor Mr Lorin Maazel leads the orchestra to perform La Scala di Seta Overture by Rossini and Symphony No 4 of Mendelssohn. The young soloist Ms Alisa Weilerstein also plays Cello Concerto in E minor by Elgar with the orchestra.
