Shun Hing Group is honored to receive the Award for Arts Sponsorship of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, in recognition of its continuing support of arts and culture in Hong Kong.
Shun Hing Group sponsored a variety of classical music events in 2008/09, including Yundi Li in Recital for the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HKPO), Jean-Efflam Bavouzet: Piano Journey for Le French May Arts Festival and a concert by the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin for the Hong Kong Arts Festival. "We hope our support to cultural activities in Hong Kong will encourage extensive sponsorship from other organizations, and raise Hong Kong's standing in international art and culture," said David Mong, Vice Chairman of the Group.
In addition to acting as a patron, Shun Hing Group gave its full support to nurturing talented young artists from Hong Kong, mainland China and the rest of Asia and to cultivate exchanges. In the past two years, the group sponsored concerts by the Asian Youth Orchestra, bringing together young musicians from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand.
To provide more students with easy access to classical music from a young age, the Group has been sponsoring the HKPO's Student Ticket Fund since 2002. It has also sponsored drama performances by the Hong Kong Repertory Theatre to promote Chinese and foreign plays.
The Hong Kong Arts Development Awards was first introduced in 2003 to give formal recognition to distinguished arts practitioners, groups, and organizations that have made significant contributions to the arts development in Hong Kong. Since 2007, the Hong Kong Arts Development Awards has grown into an annual award scheme and is now one of the local major arts events.
