Hong Kong Students Awarded Shun Hing Education and Charity Fund Scholarships to Study Engineering at UCLA

Mr David Mong, Vice Chairman of the Shun Hing Group joined in person the scholarship presentation ceremony of his alma mater, the Universityof California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science on 26 April 2014 (the USA time).

To provide engineering undergraduates from Hong Kong the best possible educational opportunities and much-needed funds to deserving students who have potential to become future leaders in engineering, Mr Mong set up the Shun Hing Education and Charity Fund Scholarships at UCLA since 2012 for students who have lived, worked or studied in Hong Kong.

The mission of engineers is to improve and enrich human lives with innovative designs and inventions. Apart from having a broad spectrum of knowledge, they need to care about the society. As a graduate of UCLA engineering, Mr Mong said, 'Although I am a businessman now and I am not practicing engineering at my daily work, whenever I have to make important decision, I always look at the engineering ring that I am wearing on my right hand and remind myself that I have to make the right decision that will not impose any risk in safety, health and overall welfare of the general public. Profitability is also important but not my first priority.'

'Over the years, a vast majority of our donation has gone to the area of science and technology, because we truly believe that technological advancement transforms the society and that education transforms life,' said Mr Mong.
