UCLA receives generous gifts from alumnus David Mong for new Learning Center
As the Engineering alumnus of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), Mr David Mong, Chairman & Group CEO of Shun Hing Group has been very supportive for the development of the University. Mr Mong made a generous donation to support the construction of the Learning Center at the new Engineering VI Building in 2014, which played a significant role in educating generations of UCLA engineers.
Engineering VI, a 150,000-square-foot research and teaching facility, is in the heart of the UCLA campus. It is a hub of cross-disciplinary research and collaboration for UCLA, South California and the world. The 60,000-square-foot Phase I was completed in 2015 and the 90,000-square-foot Phase II was completed in 2017. Engineering VI is the gateway to the UCLA campus and home to researchers focusing on the world's most pressing needs, e.g. sustainable energy, clean water, faster and more energy-efficient processors and nanoelectronics, etc.
In recognition of the gifts from Mr David Mong, a 250-seat technology-enabled Center within Engineering VI is named the Dr William M. W. Mong Memorial Learning Center, which is a centerpiece for Engineering events, distance learning activities and collaboration with other engineering and research institutions in the United States and beyond. The name is in honor of Mr Mong's father, a leader in education and public service and the founder of Hong Kong-based Shun Hing Group.
"We hope that in the years and decades ahead, Dr Mong's legacy will continue to impact lives for the better, far and wide. We owe our very existence to the communities that sustain our business and we never forget that social responsibility is a cornerstone of our corporate responsibilities," Mr Mong said.
